I love the style. As for interpretation, It seems like he's been a wretched soul all his life and is finally looking into the light, partially blinded but inexplicably drawn to it.

Although that might be a mite too poetic. XD

Nice picture, I agree it does look like somone seeing the light for the first time. Great atmosphere
