I have worked hard on this one. It had started as something all together different, an image of the dark beauty of the Deserts of New Mexico. But I was not happy with it and changed it in to an image that reflects some of my family's and stomping grounds dark history...
My Grandfather and Great-grandfather, both dug the wells in Chama NM, the town where I was raised. At one point, at or around 1936, they needed to dig the well for the "new" town center. A well to be used by the Shamrock Hotel, where I grew up, and the Rainbow Amphitheater, which were to be built as soon as construction was complete.
The only hang up, was that the construction site was the old cemetery
So, they dug up the monuments and remains to move them to the new cemetery. While doing so, he found that all of the Roman Catholic's, and only the Roman Catholic's, had crosses burned into their skulls...

That is very creepy and very intriguing. I wonder why? Did they ever find out? Was it to assure them access to heaven somehow by marking them with a cross so they would be recognised? I hope they were burnt in after their death. |

I don't know about why, but my brother in law is studing to enter the Preisthood, and he is just as stumped by this story as I am. I also hope they were postmortem.
