I'm sure that the message in this case is meaningful to the contributor. Whilst the motivation or indeed message behind any particular contribution may be unclear to the viewer it is no less the choice of the artist to use their sqaure in a way that is meaningful to them.
Why a message? Why a series of abstact dots or lines? Why a cat ? Why anything?
Also, the title-box, I doubt, will appear when the Million Masterpiece is exhibited, so people feel that their square is the place to put a message.
To quote from the 'About Us' page for the OMM.
You don't need to be an artist or be able to draw - you can make patterns, write words, doodle - what-ever you want. Your image will be one of one million images that will make up the entire picture - The One Million Masterpiece.
Every contribution helps Pip.

If a great piece of art were required, we'd be looking at making the One Thousand Masterpiece! Not so impressive |

The artist in question has connected with the concept of the project whole-heartedly. From the OMM homepage ....
"No artistic ability required, just a passion to support international charity work and a favourite doodle or sketch."
Personally I find this square amusing.

What do you mean, meaningless??? There is plenty of meaning in the statement! It definitely meets the stated invitation to participate even if one can't draw. Most of us wouldn't be here if that were a requirement. |
