Sorry for what is probably a stupid question, but I've not been on here since before summer and there's so many changes!
I think I've managed to understand them all... except for the rating.
What do you rate good or bad for?
Is it just wether you like it or not?
Sorry if this seems a pointless thread but I'm quite confused !!

Hi Ruth, you can give votes for any reason- the message behind a picture, the technical skill, the humour, or just a gut reaction! I don't think many people on here vote images down- the only time I've done it it when a deliberately offensive image made it onto the front page (there's been a lot of debate about censorship though, and I'm sure not everybody would agree with doing this). Sorry it took so long for you to get an answer -- Hope this helps!
