Minimal Masterpieces!

After roaming round over 1000 squares on this site (I think I'm doing well in my commenting!) I am interested in starting a competition!

Who can create the best masterpiece using the least brushstrokes? Is it a case of less is more or is this project the exception where quality is equal to quantity? :P

What are your thoughts and how many strokes did it take to make your masterpiece?

i couldn't , im just give up before i participate this competition...hahah...:) im never satisfy of my painting...eventhough its finished enough, there are some lacking somewhere. as much i agree with morgan,there are how many people can do it...that i've found...its such peel an apple never can break, till it pretty clean. i think...OMM should provide the strokes arithmetic..so that, its easy to count it..who is use the most least strokes...hahha...great idea though..congrat!

haha i always aim to do the least amount of strokes in a painting due to the way i find it irritating how my image would start getting all unreckonisable due to the flash trying to keep up, so i usually try to stop lag by putting on colour and not bothering to blend on the canvas much. but i reckon this is a great idea.. i dont think i would be a great candidate for this project tho.. lol btw would u know how to see how many strokes u used in each image?

I'm in! Although I try blending and sharpening as much as I can, the "Painterly" style is my innate tendency. It'll take restraint, to be sure, but I have an idea of how I'll do it.

I agree, it's far too difficult to create a decent image without layering, I'm working on a new one now of lava lamp but it needs lots of layering to get the tones just right! Though if you hold down your curser does that count as one stroke? hmm oh wel it's still fun!

anyone who's experienced with continual countour could win this pretty easily... me, on the otherhand, I need my brushstrokes! good luck ;)

do people actually count their brushstrokes or is there away to find out?

I'm currently on 5220 brush strokes, but that includes all my pictures because I never undo before I move onto my next picture. I thinks it helps to be able to use many different oppacities and colours because real life has so many different shades: you can not replicate it without doing the same. But if you do a square in printing style or just use patterns and colours, you could use a lot less. My first picture, the copy of Warhol's butterfly print, used barely any (not that I am saying that it was a masterpiece, just that different styles can use different amounts).

heheh... find people who aren't into realism, that takes endless blending and alot of brushstrokes. maybe look for different styles, like that one that's mario from nintendo, done in grid format, that was really cool. just an example. btw mine took 11459 strokes :P

Hmm! Interesting challenge, although I don't know if I can do it! I used many strokes, and I tend to go for lower opacities and lots of overlapping vs. more opaque colors... so it would be quite tricky XD Really neat idea though! But I don't think I'll participate in that one >.> Haha! Hugs, Gracie

mine took 626 strokes. i do enjoy using many brush strokes with a low opacity. this is certainly and interesting idea! i personally think it's just about personal style. different people work well with different things. i don't think using fewer or more brush strokes says anything about quality.
