| About Michael Mayhew New Zealand born, I am an established Christchurch artist working mostly in acrylics. Studying at the school of design, for my bachelor in design, has given me a good understanding of the direction of my work, though use of graphic design and illustration. Recently I have had a painting used for a cover of an international publication and have been part of an international artist group exhibition in Liverpool, UK. My art looks to nature and to the local past for inspiration, to best describe my thoughts and ideas on today's current climate and issues in this country. The use of bright colours helps not only to express the strong light of New Zealand, but also the optimistic and colourful nature I want to explore in my art. My work helps me to make sense of an unpredictable and rapidly changing world that we live in. Art is a mirror of our culture; let it reflect the best not the worst.
