Hi, Allison. I posted that one earlier. He's been right next to me. For a while the program had hijacked his square so people couldn't see it. |

haha I know what you mean. I thought I did a pretty good job when I sat back and looked at my finished square way back when but then I quickly found dozens and dozens of amazing ones that put me to shame |

I don't think it's putting anyone to shame, this site was not intentioned to do so, but rather just make your square, then to admire you're work, and those around you. |

i think Pats square is one of the best ones. I dont think anyone else has done anything so simple yet so striking and so clever. It is so effective. He has got loads of people invited on to the project too so an all round good OMM member - certainly no need to feel ashamed to be here! |

Embarrassed - PERLEASE!
No-one should feel inferior when it comes to making art. Tcha. Just because someone has drawn something that actually looks like something it ought to, doesn't give it anymore artistic weight than a slop of vibrant energetic colour. Get Rothko, Pollock, Damien Hirst (thought that I would get one Brit in there) etc. You can't compare a beautiful old Master with an emotionally expressive blob of a beguiling abstract.
Skill (yes agree a tablet does help the lock jaw on the mouse claw hand thingy) and years of 'practise' might add an edge, but at the end of the day I really like those done by young children. Art that has no pretensions and is ultimately - fun! and a joy to look at.
I love the square in question. Being Chinese in origin myself it holds a real attachment, considering I am adopted and left Hong Kong at an early age I don't remember anything much about my culture, other that what I have learnt since in other countries. Hence my picture as I have no baby pictures of myself.
I think this square is beautifully drawn and retains the Far Eastern feel. I also agree with the message, ONCE there were trees. It is a shame so much is lost in the name of progress.
Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks.
In some respects it is not all bad - I have many things that I may not have had a chance to experience - mainly . . . parents. Also, a not too bad education with the ability to pick up a paint brush and do something semi decent (or very crap) with it on a canvas.
Two sides to every coin eh?
But I agree about the culture, I am through and through a Brit and regret not having been back to Hong Kong. One day.
I do like coming back to this site to see who else from where else has joined.
Cool.
Take care,
jacq x

its strange how there is a huge difference between those who dont try to make a good picture, and those who do give any effort at all.
