I think it's much better that the deletion has been cut from 60 to 14, 14 is a much more sensible time period. If people don't care about this project, there's no point asking them again and again in the hope it will change them. |

Why oh why oh why do i still have black squares above me???!!!!
Arrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.....they are making me a bit mad. Myself and Mike (right hand neighbour) have emailed all the squares around us to see if we can get a collaboration going but nothing. I can live with that but there has been a black square above me since day one and its not good |

Your old neighbours are due to be deleted very soon - I've just checked! Say hello to the new folk when they arrive! |

I'll do more than say hello when my new neighbour arrives...i'll be sending a big hug from my square to theirs! Although that might frighten them off so probably best I just say hi as suggested! |

Joe's technique is pretty amusing. This is from his last 10 posts (at least)
Joe Montgomery said... (Tue 26th Dec, 2006) ANOTHER NIGHTSCENE IT IS STUNNING I LIKE HOW YOU CAPTURED THE COMPLETE DARKNESS GREAT USE OF THE TOOLS. HEHEHE JUST KIDDING. I WILL GIVE YOU A GRADE NOW BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT YOU WILL DRAW IS GOING TO BE GREAT. ANYWAY, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL COME BACK AND GIVE YOU A REAL COMMENT. JUST INCLUDE THE WORD “NIGHTSCENE” IN YOUR COMMENT. I WILL BE WAITING. JOE (5 / 5)
Maybe this will awaken the artists who haven't started their squares yet.
I'm actually more concerned about people who occupy their square with a large scrawled "WIP" or "Coming Soon" and seem to forget about them. At least a square that hasn't been touched is easier to detect.

Is anything happening with black squares? I have been on here over 2 weeks and still have 1 side of my picture and above still completely unoccupied. I thought 2 weeks was the time limit. |

what will happen to the squares that say "coming soon" yes, one could argue that it is art, but it is agreeable that it isnt very productive art... |

When an account is deleted (not just black squares but also rule breaking accounts) what happens to user created stuff outside of the profile such as message board posts, image comments and news item comments? Are they deleted? is the corresponding image removed and the text left in place? Or something else?
just curious. Pip. |

Pip - everything associated with that image number is deleted (well, actually it's kind of archived) so that the new occupant is not linked to the old account.
Jeran - My thinking is that when we near our goal we will set loose an army of administrators to try and prompt the "coming soon" squares - backed up by official emails to these people. |

The black square problem... I did kind of like the effect they had, but it doesn't make sense to keep squares that haven't been used.
I personally like Dave's idea of using stars, but there are so many spacescapes here that it would be hard to tell which were blank and which were used squares. |

Awwww! I like the colour black. Are black squares not a reflection of part of where this masterpiece is going. I think they should be left.
Silence can say just as much as words.
A black canvas to me is a more tempting option to add colour too than a white one.
But then i am Welsh. ; ) |

I agree with Ray with that. It's tempting to add colors and stars and what-not... but the black squares could even be a statement of their own. Perhaps the artist who leaves their square black could do so for artistic reasons?
Of course, then it just seems as if they don't want to draw anything. |

When you do start deleting blank squares will you leave colaborations together, many would make more sense if they stayed together. Just wondering. |

I think that squares that are already filled with an image will remain in their original location (so collaborations will be undisturbed). New members will be allocated the newly liberated black squares nearer the middle of the OMM rather than getting an unused square at the edge. |

So this is what the black squares were... I found in real life that people is really scared of drawing, expecially things that aren't icons or copied immaginario stuff, but I think giving them some courage is a good thing. What I really love of this initiative is to see non-Painters express theirselves with painting, you can learn a lot from them, not in the sense of technique , more in the sense of attitude. This is in a way a drawing Karaoke, hehehe
Ok, I'm OT, as usual. Just wanted to say that I agree with the encouragment technique and am here also to bring a Hello to everyone |

i never realized there were any rules to the drawings exept You don't need to be an artist or be able to draw - you can make patterns, write words, doodle - what-ever you want. from the about us page. what exactly are the rules? |
