I keep looking everywhere, and seeing that there seems to be lots of people introducing themseles, but not so much a place for everyone to be introduced in one place for people who are a bit nervous about starting a thread just about them.... Thus I create this welcome thread...

Its simple, just talk a little bit about yourself, your name, your interests, why you like art and so on, and then voila! A nice cosy atmosphere for people who don't feel like posting a thread just about them.

I'll start so you get an idea of how you could do it.

I'm Alex, I'm at Uni in my first year doing Game Art Design, ie computer games. Anyway my hobbies are art of most kinds, reading, writing, computer games and meddling in things to help people. I do love meddling. I've always liked art since I was little, generally just to do what I want, If I compose a cool image in my head I want to be able to get it down on paper. My favourite artists would be Caspar David Friedrich, David Mack and Michael Whelan, a bizarre mix I know. I tend to be quite impressionist, as I don't like spending too long on a single image putting in details like proes and so on, though I have a massive admiration for those who have the skill and patience.

Now you all try.

Ok Alex....here we go....

I am Laura and I am 28. I live in Essex (UK) and work in the City of London as a PA to an Occupational Health Doctor.

When I first joined TOMM there were only a couple of hundred squares so it is great to see how it has taken off.

I have a creative flare but not really for drawing (which is why my square is a bit of a cop out in the drawing stakes). I prefer interior design and card / gift making.

I am very pleased to be part of this project as it has restored my faith in human kindness. I grew up and lived in East London until a year ago and so I have always been surrounded by violence and nastiness. It is so nice to see people making positive comments on the work of others and pulling together to achieve an end goal. Leaving comments is addictive!

I look forward to reaching the One Million mark and hearing from more of you out there on this thread. Have a great weekend everyone.

Next person - over to you......

Hi, my name is Ryan, I am 19, and I am attending ICCC in Iowa....

I had to choose between a science major and an art major, so it turned out to be a science major because of the financial issue. I'm not doing so great with a science major because it isn't as important to me as art is.

My professor who transferred out of Iowa State University has taken a personal interest in my success as a student, but I am just not accepting it in a way that changes my attitude enough. I feel a little apathetic and procrastinate toward the vocational area and I don't know what kind of a job I will find in the field.

The science courses were a center of my interest in high school, but
I also took all offered art classes at my hometown high school, minus calligraphy. I always felt as if I should spawn my own creations, so I never did get great grades because I was bouncing all over without an artistic concentration.

I don't feel like spending the rest of my life in a laboratory, but I will see where time takes me, and in the meanwhile, being a part of this project helps it all to seem worthwhile.

I know how long it takes to become adept at drawing anything well, and I commend all of the artists of TOMM for their past achievements that were needed to make this a true masterpiece, and for sharing the canvas side by side.

I'm cchimera. As you can see, I'm a bit shy when it comes to real names on the 'net... though had you visited my square prior to my adjusting it you might have caught what it was. smiley

I'm 25 and Canadian. Though life's a bit turbulent right now due to my being recently unemployed [By choice- I quit a job I'd been at for little over a year because I'd grown to hate it] I'm fairly upbeat about things, probably because I know I'm safe til the end of the month at least. smiley I'm kept busy with reading, drawing, photography [when I get a chance to take pictures anyway], my boyfriend and assorted friends. smiley I've recently returned to creating art after a [roughly] four-year hiatus and am in process of assembling a portfolio of work so I can return to art school in the fall and finish off what I started in 2003.

Hola! I'm J and I'm a first-year university student. While I'm majoring in engineering, I have always had a passion for art that runs the gamut from traditional works to graphic design and web design. Admittedly, I've been in an art slump for a good 6+ months, but I'm trying to doodle my way out of it and get my creative juices flowing again. I also enjoy learning languages (except my native tongue, ironically), long walks along the trails at school, and avoiding studying for final exams like the plague... but now that those are over, I can really get involved in the TOMM community! smiley

Hi, I'm William. I'm 24 years old, 2 years out of college and finally have a job (woohoo). I enjoy doing many things among which are illustration, singing, songwriting, poetry, programming, math, videogames, and commenting on other people's work. Actually, I almost like to do too much, and constantly jump beteen projects, wherever my whims take me.

I also like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rai--wait, that's not it. I mean, I like long nature walks as J. Yang does. I hope I can contribute alot to the TOMM community. smiley

Hi, I'm Rebecca and I'm 13. I live with my Parents and 2 brothers and I love art so much! My favorite type of art is computer graphics and manga, but I also do a lot of still life and watercolor paintings (the complete opposite, heheh) My other hobbies include reading Terry Pratchett books, looking after my pet rats and being a bit lazy and watching telly.
I'm always on Deviant Art. When I'm older I hope to be some sort of graphics designer because that's what I enjoy and do best =)
