I realize that many pictures have stories behind them, as does mine ( I confess I haven't fully written it down yet) So I was curious, What's the story behind YOUR image?

I've left my picture up to speculation. ^^

Well, there's no definite "story" behind it. Floating orbs of water are a motif that end up in most of my more abstract paintings, and the space setting is sortof maybe representative of Heaven. Plus, Space fascinates me. The number three and the image of water is a recurring theme throughout the theories of more speculative, "paraphysical" philosophers--not to mention the religious significance of both.

So there's a far too in-depth analysis of my square. I can do more if you like. smiley

Well, I wanted to draw something really well, so I needed reference, but I didn't want to go with my usual fare (animals, fantasy, characters) but not away from it entirely. Eventually I just settled on drawing my hand as I had the ultimate reference for it (and I'd hope so too...) and decided to give it some ambiguous blue lighting to give it some mystery. I never decided whether it was energy or magic or water, but I tried to make it look as if it could be any.... Quite a rubbish story isn't it?

Mine sprung up from a poem I wrote about how so many people (mainly teenagers) are medicated due to mental health isssues when they don't need to be. Anti-depressants don't cure depression, they just pospone it, which means the core to your sadness is still unresolved. No one knows you better than yourself. You have to dig yourself out of your own mental torture. It takes time and effort but its worth it. Pills are NOT a quick fix to all your troubles, they just dig them deeper below the surface. But yes.. that is what my square of squareness is about =] Your mind is a delicate, complex thing, its where every bit of what makes you you lies, it needs taking care of, not clogged with unnatural chemicals that numb your whole being.

And stuff and things and blahdeblahblah, I wont go further, but you get my point.

I was inspired by the amount of young people addicted to drugs, alcohol and self harm nowdays and how we need to throw away the things that hurt us.

now that strikes up something interesting.. i really like that response. i have a few friends who have been on anti-depressants or have just been put back on it and i cant stop thinking if there could be another way. i too think that anti-depressants isnt always the answer.. its just a quick fix to problem that parents or doctors can only think of.. anyways..

the story to mine? my piece is simply a evidence of experimenting.. man you should have heard the lash back i got for saying that aloud infront my lecturers during the mid year folio examination hahahaha! but anyways i aimed to create a similar feel of chinese paintings, turned out i didnt like it so i started erasing it... but as i did i kinda liked the outcome of what was left with it.. but at the same time i thought it was empty.. while thinking of the playback feature and at the same time thinking of activating the space of the portrait.. i decided to turn it into an animation... the story of the animation is mostly what i can picture happening next as i work on it.. its meant to bring in humour and a bit of sadness and warmth.. i plan to make it into something that unites us all but i find that would be a bit hard to manage with trying to make everything run smoothly throughout playback but i will aim to get there.. hopefully if time allows smiley

Story to my picture:
One stormy night, a teenage boy was trapped in his house. Out of boredom and the abundance of gas from an aunt, a force from Justice was born: Mega Roma Man. He had one goal in life: To rid the world of Gastranomous, and develop the justice and harmony of the world. In his first battle with Gastranomous, Mega Roma Man proved to be the 'Bean-o' to the never ending Gas. But alas, Gastranomous lived on to terrorise the world. Only this time with help from the notably evil BUS, or Bad Union Society. Although BUS consisted of four members(Gastranomous, the vixen Clown Killer, the frenzied Monkey Man, and the evilest of evils Captain Blue), BUS was still a force to be reckoned with.

Now remember everyone: Justice will always prevail, so long as you Keep It Mega.

Whenever I don't know what else to draw, my doodles frequently tend to become cats.... I started playing with a red Torbie pattern, which reminded me of a tiger. That got the poem "Tiger, Tiger.." stuck in my head. What with the rapid deforestation of their wild habitats, soon housecats that think they're tigers may be all that we'll have left. So hence the little bit of environmental doggerel.
Sorry about that.smiley

Very interesting responses, I wasn't aware that I would get so many! I like them all, in particular, the one about the anti-depressants I agree with. I made another thread in the "greenroom" area that is essentially the same thing, but rather tahn just inspiration, its IN-depth explanation of the picture, what it means to you, and what it means to others. If you have more to say about the depth of your picture, I suggest you check it out.smiley

My back story changes since I changed my picture...But my old picture is still in the replay, so It is still good.

Loco Roco has to be one of the funnest, most addictive PSP games I have ever played. So I felt it should be represented in OMM.
They are so freakin cute. D:

I've had the greatest luck with any of my images if I reduce the number of overt symbols and leave as much as possible to the imagination.

So with this one, I went with a major theme and kept my image changing (while I still had virtual paint) hoping that many stories could be made up about what the change meant or why it happened. In the end, the back story for mine can be happy and/or sad. It's up to whoever looks. I've had some responses where people really internalized the changing girl - other people seem to be more of a bystander watching the changes in someone else.

In the end, more than anything else, I like to find out what other people see in it and what they take away (if anything).

My image subject of a candle was really evolved from my initial intention of creating an abstract piece based on black and white in juxtaposition...

I kept choosing different shades of color and just looking at the blank hue trying to visualize something meaningful. Finally as the theme of my OMM I chose to draw a candle that I imagined in the dimness.

I started off not knowing my abilities with this paint software, and drew a pretty mediocre candle base with a nice flame that a couple of people found worthy of commenting on. This encouraged me to pour more time and creativity into my subject.

Now I have put more time than ever into this, and I have come up with a candle that I really see something beautiful in.

One thing I discovered while using the software is the possibility of slight animation. Despite the limitations of this crude animation, I feel that I managed to use single pixels to create some flowing forms. My intentions included manipulating the heart to beat a few times, but that has proved very intimidating.

It could probably be done through multiple points of color in strategic areas, and I might still attempt it in the future, but for the moment I am satisfied with my contributions. I think that there is already a spark in my animation.

My goal in using the symbolism of a candle as focus in my square is to show others an impressive image. I hope it is an image which will remain with them as they remember a lost loved one, and also what that person gave to them in life.

Mine's pretty much self-explanatory and there's a quick summary on my profile. I'm not an artist, I deeply wish I were sometimes... but bringing this child into the world brought feelings with it that made me almost desperate to pay tribute to her.

It's not about symbolism, it's just about love. Pure, simple and all-consuming.

(lol its my 3rd time posting in here...and all three are giving the back story to my picture.)
One Piece has become one of my favorite anime, and I happened to have a favorite pose that Luffy did while fighting Don Kreig. It was after he had got hit with the spike bullets and pulled them out. He had to show just how insane he really is, so he turned to Kreig and smiled.
So far, that is my favorite part of the entire series. :]

Well... So many people are currently in the militiary, and the United states of america flag has such a great background and meaning behind it, so i decided to make a skull and a flag as the background. My simble with the skull that i drew somewhat smileing at the flag because it knows it has given its life for a great and meaninggull cause and will always be remembered. smiley
