Allow for a YouTube style video conversion or the ability to download the video and upload it to sites like YouTube.

I for one would like to post a link with the video of how the drawings take shape so that it gets interest in my friends. But I don't use just Myspace. Some other active sites out there like LiveJournal don't support the .swf embeded files.

I think it would be fantastic if artists could at least download their own video to upload to a site that will work.

I'd really like to do that too -- however, as I'm not technical in any way shape or form, I have no idea if it'd be possible...

Does anyone know of a way to record what's happening on the desk top -- like a screen grab, but with video?

OK...I've been working on this all morning. It's not perfect, but it'll work smiley

Posting your playback on YouTube using ACS Capture

1. Download a desktop capture program. This will record what is happening on your desktop and save it as a movie. I chose ACS Capture, however, there are many other programs that will do what you need.

Here is the link to the ACS Capture page where you can find more details:
''

2. Click on the tools icon. There is a default fixed capture region of 320x240. Chances are that this will be too small to fit your image. While you can drag a box around your image, if you don't have the right proportions, YouTube will squash it to fit. You can find the correct dimensions for your movie with a simple math problem. Press “select region” and drag a box around your image. Pay close attention to the height. My image height was 324 pixels. You then have the numbers you need to figure out the width you need to maintain the correct ratio. 320 x H / 240. In my case, I ended up with this: 320 x 324 / 240 = 432. Type in your ratio in the region box.

If you feel comfortable doing so, take a look at some of the other features of this program. You can add audio and text.

3. Hit the record button. A box (the size you specified) will pop up. Position it over your image. As soon as you click, the box will stay in place and recording will begin. Start your OMM playback. When the playback is finished, be sure to press stop on ACS Capture. You will be prompted to save your file, make sure you remember where it’s saved and how to get there.

4. Sign up for an account at YouTube (if you don’t already have one). You can follow their prompts to upload your video. You will also be given code to embed your video on your website, etc. The quality isn’t the greatest, but at least it’s more exposure for this site.

I’ve started a channel called One Million Masterpiece. Anyone who posts their video should join! smiley Below is a link to my video.

Great suggestion Angeli. We've had a meeting about this and Eamonn will be working on a feature that will convert your image into a movie file for download. I'll update on this very soon.

Hi!

I have also thought of saving own animation to the computer, but not in a video format (which will be either really big or really bad quality), but instead get the Flash file (profile2.swf) with the brush strokes and lines. This way it shouldn't take much space, you could scale it to any size, and have all the great playback features of the flash player with 3 playback speeds and so on.

This probably isn't so simple as I suppose the brush strokes are kept in some kind of database, separately from software, but maybe it's possible to make the drawings downloadable along with the swf?

Cheers

Well, I have figured out how to get the painting data from the database and how to play it locally using the flash player. Though, the player has some hard coded stuff that needs to be changed in order to work. Even though, there is nothing against it in terms of use, I don't know how legal this actually is.

If this is perfectly fine to do so, I will be happy to help those who want to save their drawing process to their computer.

Total size of a rather complex drawing would be around 250kb. That's extremely small size compared to any video format and it has perfect quality.

Would be nice to hear what Paul and/or other admins think about using their code for this purpose. smiley

Cheers

yay! I joined!

one suggestion is to add music to it. It gives even more depth.

To add music, you can do what Angeli suggested, then put the video file into an editing program like Windows Movie Maker (comes with I think most of the XP Home Editions)

here's mine

I know what you mean about the music! Yours is great. I have to redo mine smiley

I've set up a YouTube group for all videos of and about the OMM.

http://www.youtube.com/group/OMM

Right now, every OMM-related film that I know of has been added.

Well, I can make it for you if you want to. It would be exacly like the flash preview in profile page, so you will be able to playback it on your computer or send to friends or put on your website/blog.

I don't know how legal this is, but since admins still haven't replied, I guess they just don't care.

Hi great to hear you are all coming up with your own solutions, and I personally don't have a problem with people playing around with decompiled OMM flash code so long as its not redistributed.

I've been looking into making a 'download an mpg' feature, and have come up with a way of doing it. One problem is that it is very CPU intensive so we will probably have to restrict this feature to fully paid up members, otherwise our server will really struggle.

A couple of things that might be of interest which are easier on the server are:

downloadable screensavers
downloadable flash projector files (basically an exe which plays back your image).

Screensavers and exes require a lot less overhead than mpgs to produce, although you obviously can't upload them to youtube. Let me know which of these features interest you all.

Okay, thanks Eamonn for your reply!
Can you tell how much data can be saved into one image (how many characters)? I bet you set some limit?

So, I have downloaded your drawing data and put together with modified profile2.swf.
Download animation.zip, unzip it and run Animation.swf. You need to have Flash player installed to be able to play it.
I guess you can also put it into your website/blog...

'' Carlo immediately posted his new square on YouTube.

Yes, sure, it will take just a few seconds to get the new version when you're done with it. Just tell me when you want it.

So yes, as promised, here is my video.

Also featuring squares of my friends:
''''''''''''

I got some sound/video synchronization problems, but I am too tired to start figuring it out now. Also, strangely, some bits of the video ended up a little bit too fast... So much about my "über video editing skills"!

I was wondering if these options will work for older operating systems/computers. I have Windows 98 SE and the ACS capture software cannot be run on my system.

I absolutely support the idea of a screensaver, so if it requires so little overhead that you can create it without wasting many resources, it would be great if you could make that your first priority, and then after that (or at the same time), create the mpg format. Just so we can have a continual flow of new features.
