I like number 13, but theres a few boring squares in there, like the top corner ones which are pretty much a solid colour, but pretty much any of these i wouldn't mind doing.
Ive decided that i like number 4 now as well. cause it tink its something that would actually still look like something when collabarated, but some of the others might get a bit busy and lost (especially when some of us are a bit unco with fine details on the trees and things (thats me). I hate deciding stuff |

Hey guys Looks like the forums are workin for me XD They seemed to stall out for a while there. Anyhow basically my premise to choosing the photos was to display what COULD be done (and also to show some pretty decent examples of good landscape references..)
I understand some people may be hesitant about one-color squares; I think whatever image we choose, the squares can be adjusted and changed as necessary to make it work for the collab but also be interesting enough for the square holder too.
I tried to pick images which at least have something to do in each square..
Anyhow we can set a deadline of maybe January 10th? A little time after christmas too; the holiday season is already getting busy for me and I'm sure any last minute procrastinators will be thankful for that extra buffer hahaha.
Angeli - I love your idea of change through time; I think it might naturally progress that way...
So guys: Do you want to vote on the images i've found or keep mucking about with ideas? I know most votes are on landscape but a few people are still holding out on their voting -
Big question: do we need more time to consider our subject matter, or charge ahead with landscape?
Hugs! Gracie |

oop, forgot one more thing. If you'd like to add yourself to a email list for reminders about major updates to the collab and deadlines n stuffs, just send me a little message letting me know your OMM profile (so I know who is who) with your most frequently checked email account to mynti {at} deviantart {dot} com. The list is completely voluntary and I'll just be sending little messages when we:
1. finally decide on the image; and I'll link you to the final idea post 2. reminder of the prelim deadline to get the majority of your square done 3. any other deadlines or if something major happens and the collab is up to something sneaky!
I promise you I won't spam your email boxes.
Back to work for me! Cheers, Gracie

I can't chose now . . . umm, sorry, still like 17, although I just love number 10 - but not really for the collab, doesn't give you much to play with. But the colours are stunning, and would make a beautiful screensaver But honestly, whichever gets the biggest thumbs up, me fingers are ready n waiting to go for it I shall await for the elective collective numbers . . . Best wishes to all

I like 13 a lot...reminds me of here (Oklahoma). I also like 6, 11, 17 and 19.
Whatever we decide will be fine with me. I just can't wait to get started! |

Okays let's form up a more solid voting system for the images...
How the points are tallied:
1. First choice will receive 3 points 2. Second choice will receive 2 points 3. Third choice will receive 1 point
List your top three images; I'll tally up the points and we'll have a clear winner hopefully.
I'll go first... of the images i've studied, these are my favorites:
1. Lanscape 10 http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape010.png 2. Landscape 8 http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape008.png 3. Landscape 15 http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape015.png
I like 10 because it's sort of abstract; all the squares would be cool looking with interesting patterns. Overall end result would be amazing. Seems fairly do-able for any skill level. But the downsides to this are little room to play.
I like 8 because it's got really brilliant colors, seemingly simple but could pose quite a challenge, requires real teamwork. You could hide words in the clouds, or small birds to liven up a chosen few squares, similarly with the water, we could add small boats to the squares lacking much in form. Lots of room for style and different approaches; i think the colors will unite this piece. (and with colorpicking neighbors this will be quite fun).
Landscape 15 is cool to me simply because i took so long placing the image in the right way to make every square, no matter how simple, still interesting. I think this would be an easy choice that isn't boring; every square in the sky holds a cloud pattern, and every bit of ground has variations. I think this would be a great compromise between high detail and individual square design interest.
So there's my votes I had a rather intimate session placing all the images in the grid, I can tell you it's not so easy to get all the squares interesting I went through about 300 stock images over the past one and a half weeks.
If you guys would like to see more options, let me know, I have more on my HD; these are just the best of the different types of landscapes i found.
Hugs, Gracie

well then there we go!
1st. http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape008.png 2nd http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape010.png 3rd http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape014.png
those are my favourites, I think in each of them there is plenty to do for every square. the first and second have very beautiful colours, too, and on teh first one we can add our own stuff, too. the second one (010) would have the biggest over all impact though, if the collab was viewed zoomed out, gotta admit that. the waterfalls are a really dynamic and strong picture, we might have to come up with some more interesting sky and perhaps somewhat different colours.
anyway, those are my choices =) Daniel |

Wellll....after some long and careful thought...I have narrowed it down again to:
#1 http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape018.png #2http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape013.png #3http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape014.png
I like #1 because its a good picture...the tree just kindeh pops out so it would be very noticable from"far off". #2 because its just pretty. #3 because, well, I don't really know. I just liked it better than any other picture, and it seems kindeh challenging.
Thats my final answer.

1. #8 2. #10 3. #17
Choosing is difficult! I went through and chose the seven or so that I though looked the best and most striking, then I eliminated ones where too many squares would end up with just blocks of colour, then I tried to choose the ones that might be the most interesting to develop and customise.
#8 is really beautiful and not extremely difficult, plus there are lots of ways to personalise it, as have already been mentioned. #10 is another great image and would really stand out, without being very difficult. #17 would probably be the most difficult to draw, but I can think of loads of things to do with it... adding wildlife or fairies or some other creatures, or changing the seasons by making it snowy or autumnal. Anyway, all the images look fantastic (well done Gracie ), so I'll be happy whichever one gets chosen. |

My favorites are:
1. http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape018.png 2. http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape001.png 3. http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape017.png
I like the idea of some of us changing this (and some not) through the seasons. These seem like they can be really dynamic images. |

My votes are as follows, but I'll be happy with anything :
1st http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape014.png 2nd http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape013.png 3rd http://www.myntifresh.com/OMM/landscape/landscape010.png
Oh and Gracie, I didn't realise that you had been through 300 stock photos to try and find something that will be interesting for all. I am sure everyone appreciates all the work that you have put into this project. A big round of applause from me.
Cheers Mark

Oooh eck, having problems choosing, so many lovely images . . . still like:
17 for the sheer possibilities and fairness to all 10 for its stunning colours and striking shapes 1 for the challenge
Cheers Gracie Owe you a pint of beverage
Question - when a pic has been decided upon how do we go about it? Are we taking the pics literally and trying to copy the majority of its info to then add personal quirks; or just using it as a loose template to then add personal quirks? Or third option, don't worry about that yet?
Cool

I think best would be if at first we tried to stay close to the reference picture that each of us gets so that everything will look cohesive, and once the impression of one overall picture is achieved, we could go forward and add our own little touches. at least from my point of view that would be the most practical approach
and yeah, the idea of the picture evolving over time is cool if we had a landscape for example, the clouds could alter and move over time? >.> and the water could flow? D: ships could move down the river? okay, I better hush before I get too carried away |

Frankly I'm not too worried about dictating any set method for the individual squares; I think talking amongst your neighbors and painting your square will be an organic, natural process. In the end, I think as long as everyone participates, there won't be an issue of matching the reference photograph - because what will be more important is working together. Just having a reference broken into squares will make it easier for us to get started; but the direction that the overall collab takes, I don't really want to dictate a certain method I think we'll probably see a lot of styles right from the get-go, but that might be really cool. When the viewer pulls away and views the collab as a whole, each style may be apparent but still add to the overall image.
Anyhow Jeanne, i'll drop you a short email real quick, I'd love to add your photos too if you want
If you'd like to change your vote, please either: edit your post with the old votes and the new votes OR make a new post with your new votes; leave the old post alone.
That way I can keep track of a running tally.

I'm not an official collaborateer yet, but here's my vote anyway 1st choice- #14- lots going on in it, and the water flowing through the whole picture really brings it all together 2nd choice #13- I think there's a lot of potential for personalising your square by choosing different types/styles of flowers 3rd choice #10- This is my favourite picture, but I agree with J West that it might not be the most suitable for the collab as it's quite limited. I've put all Gracie's pics on one image and numbered them to make it easier to choose. I hope the link works! http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/5/11/14/f_TBCthumbnaim_78f4052.jpg
